The Sensex F&O expiry again turned out to be eventful on September 10 with the call options zooming multi-fold amid 1,000-point swing during Closing Auction Session (CAS).
Sensex settled 300 points higher from day's low while Nifty reclaimed the psychologically important 23,450-mark. However, Sensex's high during the indicative close was 75,708 while it was 74,629 before the CAS at 3:15 pm. The 1,000-point upward spike was followed immediately by a 700-point reversal within five minutes.
Even Nifty saw massive upside during the indicative close with the index zooming from 23,389 at 3:15 pm to 23,761 at 3:21 pm.
Indicative closing levels for benchmarks Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex briefly jumped over 1% higher during the CAS, compared with a slight loss after the end of normal trading at 3:15 pm IST.
The Nifty 50 settled 0.2% higher at 23,477.8 and the BSE Sensex added 0.19% to 74,902.59.
