CNBC's Jim Cramer identified Nvidia and Broadcom as the two stocks most likely to benefit from OpenAI's release of its GPT-6 Astra model, speaking Tuesday on CNBC's Morning Meeting.
Cramer said Nvidia deserves credit for making Astra possible. Training Astra required 100,000 Nvidia Blackwell GPUs, according to Jensen Huang, and the model — which rolled out in stages starting last week — has drawn notice for what OpenAI says are breakthroughs in cybersecurity and computer-use tasks. Huang's post on X noted that a further 400,000 GPUs are being brought online for OpenAI, a figure that points to rapidly expanding demand for Nvidia's hardware. Nvidia stock opened higher Tuesday before falling 2%.
"The stock that I think you should be buying is Nvidia," Cramer said. "It didn't do anything wrong at all. If anything, it's doing the right thing — it's the reason why OpenAI is doing so well."
Broadcom benefits through a different channel. The company worked with OpenAI to develop a custom chip called Jalapeno, designed for inference — the day-to-day running of AI models rather than training. Because Astra's strong reception reinforces OpenAI's standing in the AI race, Cramer argued it also strengthens confidence in Broadcom's custom silicon business. Broadcom stock was up 2.5% on Tuesday.
