Seemingly every week, a new, alarming headline seizes social feeds and forces a conversation about the dangers and future dangers of artificial intelligence.
It doesn't help that companies at the frontier of AI development perpetuate those fears. They incorporate them into their business models, urging people to side with them, their responsible stewardship, and their sensitivity to those dangers. That AI sales pitch is not too different from the controversial adage, "The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun."
Adding to the PR problem, several top AI labs are newcomers to consumer products. You might use AI chatbots or even rely on them, but do you really trust their makers? Trust is a funny concept in a world where the most intimate spaces and moments of our lives are digitized, searchable, and permanently recorded. (Unless your data storage runs out!)
That makes Apple's slow-roll AI strategy all the more appealing.
